The 2011 China Summer Immersion will focus on a comparative analysis of Chinese visual communications.
Students studying on this immersive trip will evaluate, assess, and analyze Chinese written communication,
aural/visual communication, and other media messages. The analysis will dissect the nuance and aesthetic
elements within such communications in order to ascertain how modern China attempts to communicate their
culture to American/Western audiences. Students will view and study a variety of cultural artifacts such
as films, television programming, advertisements, textual materials, and other communications directed
towards a western audience, and/or how such communications depict Americans.
